Occasionally advertisements pop up in a window with the title Messenger Service when we are on the internet; this could mean that our computer might not be secure. Please note that even though the name is similar, these messages are not related to Windows Messenger or any other instant messaging programs for that matter and they are sometimes referred to as messenger spam.
You might also want to know that disabling the instant messaging programs is not necessary because it will not prevent Messenger Service Spam from popping up on your computer. To achieve this you should enable Windows Firewall or the one that comes with your anti virus software and in addition disable the Messenger Service feature in Windows XP.
To disable the Messenger service go to Start > Run then type services.msc press enter. Look for Messenger in the Services list and right click on it. Click on Properties in the drop down menu. This will take you to Messenger property. In the Messenger Property, click Disabled in the start-up type list, click, in the Service Status click Stop and then click ok.
There you have, I hope this will help to stop POP-UPs from irritating you the next time you surf the internet. A note of warning for efficiency you should only activate only one firewall at a time. You should either use the inbuilt firewall system that comes with windows or the one from your anti-virus software or from wherever.

How To Rid Your Computer of Dragging
Have you ever wondered why a computer that was previously fast has suddenly become slow? Not only virus or spyware can slow down computer performance, but fragmentation as well. When files become fragmented, it becomes a tedious task for the computer to quickly access files, as they will be scattered all over the drive. To correct this error and improve computer performance, you need to defragment your drive occasionally. The step by step procedures to achieve this is what we shall be talking about in this article.
There are various ways to defragment your drive, but I will show you two ways to go about it. First go to my computer and right click on the drive you want to defragment like c, d, etc. depending on your setup. Let us use drive C as an example, right click on drive c and click on properties. Click on the Tools tab and go Defragment Now. This will take you to the Disk Defragmenter Menu. You can click on Analyze to see if you need to defragment the drive or click on Defragment to start defragmenting. That is step one.
You need fewer clicks to do it the other way. Click on start then right click on my computer and go to manage. This will take you computer management. Go to storage and then Disk Defragmenter. If you want to know if you should defragment or not click on analyze or click on Defragment after selecting the drive you want to defragment.
There you have it. I know using a dragging computer can be very frustrating so I hope this article will help you sort that problem as long as it got nothing to do with spyware or virus.

How to lock Desktop Icons
Hello, my name is Kaycee and I am an IT technician. I just want to share with you how to lock your desktop icons on your computer. There are different types of computer users out there, there are those of us that like arranging our desktop in a particular way (I think I fall in this group) and there are those that do not really care how their desktop icons are arranged. Therefore, this article is for those people who like having their desktop arranged in a particular way and even for those that do not care how their icons are arranged for knowledge reason. This article will help you lock your desktop icons into place so that nobody can disarrange your nice desktop arrangement. To do this, click on start then run and type regedit. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER then Software then Microsoft then Windows then CurrentVersion then Policies then Explorer. Right-click on an empty space in the right pane and select New, DWORD Value name NoSaveSettings and press the enter key. Right-click on the new NoSaveSettings item and select Modify. Enter 1 in the Value data box. You are done, whenever you restart windows now, your settings will return to their state and your won’t have to worry about someone messing up your desktop settings.
A note of warning, the values in the registry editor are not to be changed at will if you don’t know what you are doing. It is advisable for you to make a back up of the registry editor before altering values otherwise be sure before you tamper with them because windows can become severely unstable if wrong values are entered.

Secret Codes in Nokia
Hi there beautiful people, you are welcome to my world. Today I want to share with you some secret codes in Nokia. I hope some of these tips if not all work for you. Here we go; to check the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) press * # 06 #. If you need to view the software version of your phone then press *#0000#. Yeah I can see the big grin on your face. If for one reason or the other you need to reset your phone to the default settings you know factory settings, then press *#7780#. This is for people with newer devices that support WLAN. *#62209526# displays the MAC address of the WLAN adapter. *#92702689# takes you to a secret menu where you may find some of the information below:
1. Displays Serial Number.
2. Displays the Month and Year of Manufacture
3. Displays (if there is) the date when the phone was purchased (MMYY).
4. Displays the date of the last repair if found (0000).
5. Shows life timer of phone (time passes since last start).
*#3370# will Enhance Full Rate Codec (EFR) activation. It will increase signal strength and give you better reception. It also helps with GPRS where service is too slow or not responding. The catch is that it will drain your battery faster. *#3370* will deactivate the EFR. The phone will automatically restart and battery life will increase by 30% because phone receives less signal from network.
There you have them. Go and have fun with them.

An informed mind is a sound mind
I woke up today feeling very inspired. The reason for this is simple; I made a resolution to celebrate life each new day. I have come to realize that worrying never solves a problem it only depresses us more. Rather than focusing on the things in our lives that cant be changed, it will do us a lot of good if we can focus on the positive things in our lives. We can use these things as a source of motivation to turn our lives around. We can also learn to develop our minds, get informed educate ourselves to improve our lives thereby enriching our life style. Let take information for instance. Many people suffer because they lack information. It will amaze you how much problems you will be able to solve if only you are but informed. The rich will keep on getting richer because they are privy to some information the average people do not. They have financial advisers giving them good advice on how to make their money work for them while the average people because of lack of information continue to work hard for money. It is not that they are stupid, they only lack information and some will never bother to do anything about it. Well somebody once said that blessed are they that are ignorant for they know nothing thinking that they know. What I’m talking about does not only apply to the financial sector but to all aspects of our lives. Information can lead to knowledge and knowledge they say is power; Knowledge also leads to happiness because to have it is to know what is true and real. It gives you freedom; a writer once said that "when books are opened we discover we have wings". So people all I’m trying to say here is that we must do all we can to seek information, seek to expand our horizon, keep our minds sharp at all times so that we can be all the best we can for that is what we will be remembered by tomorrow.

How To Increase Your Computer Speed
It is a natural thing for most of us computer users to want our computers to be as fast as possible, for this reason I’d like to share with you what I do to increase my computer speed by reducing the work-load on my ram. Open a large word document then press CRTL plus SHIFT plus ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will see that WINWORD.EXE is somewhere at the top, using a significant part of the memory. Now go back to the large word document that you opened and simply minimize it; (don’t use the Minimize All Windows option of the task bar). Now go back to Windows Task Manager, you will see that the amount of ram been used for word has reduced significantly. You might even need to scroll down to the bottom of the list to see it. By now I’m sure you agree with me that it is a good idea to minimize each application you are n0t working on currently by clicking on the minimize button thereby increasing the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. In any multitasking system, minimizing an application means that it won’t be utilized by the user right now, therefore the operating system automatically makes the application use virtual memory and keeps bare minimum amounts of the code in physical RAM. Remember the more space you have in your RAM or memory the faster you computer will be. This has always work for me, I hope it does not only work for you but opens your eyes to some other things you might have been missing in the Windows Task Manager.
